So you?ve committed to reconnect. ?One dilemma that might come up is what to do with an old contact? ?How do you approach them in a meaningful way when you haven?t been in touch in a while? ? Here is basic outline for getting the relationship back on track.
1. ?Start with an honest phone call or email, providing an introduction. ?Tell them who you are, remind them where you met or how you know them, and admit that it?s been a while since you?ve been in touch.
2. ?Apologize. ?Explain that you could have done a better job at keeping in touch and you intend to do so moving forward.
3. ?Offer to help.? Would you like to see some of my latest work?? If so, I?d be happy to send you a link to my website?? Would you like to learn about any upcoming art events in the area? ?
4. ?Ask if you can stay in touch.? Get permission and then give your word that you will do it.
5. ?Say thank you. Send them a handwritten note thanking them for taking time to reconnect.
6.? Just do it!? Stay in touch using a simple contact management system.
Remember that each loyal customer or contact in your database can represent a transaction down the line. ?If you?re not keeping in touch with them and building relationships after the sale, you?re missing out on opportunities to move your business forward.
